After many months of reports and articles about preparing for the change, the countdown to the phase-out of T12 fluorescent lamps is finally drawing to a close. July, 2012 marks the cease in production of many of the most common T12 fluorescent lamp types, and the shift to more energy-efficient T8 and T5 lamps.While the unavailability of T12 lamps may pose a challenge to managing a facility lighting system, the phase-out has a silver lining: financial incentives to make the upgrade from T12s, and cost-savings from reduced energy bills and lower system maintenance costs with the new lamps.
