To gain full “buy in” from your organization’s fledgling
recycling program, it helps to have a plan in place. With EasyPak pre-paid
mail-in universal waste recycling containers, recycling anything from batteries
to fluorescent bulbs to thermostats has never been easier. All you need to do
is follow these three steps:
1. Set goals for your
recycling program. Just like any project, setting clear goals provides your
organization with a clear path from which to measure your success.
2. Measure progress
against your goals. If you can’t measure progress against your goals, how
do you know if you are successful? Measure your recycling activities against
your goals and solicit feedback from both program users and your recycling
partners to understand what is working and what’s not. Make changes based on
feedback.
3. Take pride and
boast about your accomplishments. Publish your results and to gain
recognition and promote a “recycling matters” culture within you organization
Certain commonly used products contain hazardous materials
and may also be regulated. Your
recycling results assure regulators that you have a program in place and
reporting provides a means to document compliance with applicable regulations. For
example, these common workplace materials are regulated by Federal and State Universal Waste laws, and require regulated recycling:
- Batteries Recycle various types of dry cell batteries including alkaline, nickel cadmium, lithium & lithium-ion, nickel metal hydride, iron, zinc carbon, silver, and Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), as well as AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt.
- Fluorescent lights Air Cycle provides simple sustainable solutions that make recycling any amount of fluorescent bulbs or CFLs easy.
- Electronic waste, while not regulated as Universal Waste by the Federal government, is considered so by certain states. This list includes, but is not limited to, computers, monitors, telecom gear, fax machines and TVs.
