Increase Work Environment Safety With Lamp Recycling
Tuesday, March 29, 2016
The Bulb Eater 3 drum top fluorescent lamp crusher with Intelli Technology is the most fun you can have disposing of lamps, but it’s also much more. This incredible innovation brings to mind efficiency, compliance, and most of all, safety. Mercury is a nerve poison that, when vaporized, can easily be absorbed into the lungs and blood stream. Federal regulations protect workers, and fines for improper disposal could be as much as $32,000 per occurrence.
Among the many reasons to use the
Bulb Eater 3®, which crushes an entire pallet of lamps into a 55-gallon drum, is the reduction of risk and liability associated with improper disposal. EPA studies have shown an estimated 2-3% accidental breakage rate while handling bulbs for pickup, releasing dangerous mercury gas into the work environment. The Bulb Eater 3 reduces labor by up to 20 hours per 1,000 lamps, which reduces time handling bulbs and chances of accidental breakage. Workers are safer, and liability is reduced.

Do Travelers Care About Staying With Green Hotels?

According to a survey by
Forbes Magazine, 62 percent
of travelers either always or often consider the environment when choosing a
hotel, transportation, or restaurant. The survey also shows that 69 percent say
they plan to make even more eco-friendly choices in the next 12 months.
The majority of respondents agreed that hotels could do a
better job of publicizing their green initiatives. In fact, most revealed that
they rarely or never felt informed about whether hotels are truly eco-friendly.
We’d like to believe that hotels practice environmental sustainability for the
sake of our environment, but with more heads in beds, who could argue with this
survey?
There is a rare opportunity, of which most hotels aren’t
taking advantage, to use sustainability reporting metrics as green marketing.
In fact, Trip Advisor launched a rating service called Green Leaders in 2013 in
partnership with Energy Star, the US Green Building Council, and the United
Nations Environment Program, to recognize hotels based on environmental
practices. Air Cycle partner Renaissance Arlington Capital View, is a 2015
Green Leader, LEED certified hotel, and received the Virginia Green Travel Star
Award for
Green Hotel of the Year.
Enrolling in an Air Cycle corporate recycling program not
only makes compliance with state and federal regulations simple, but also
includes tracking of your green progress, which can influence travelers to
choose your hotel when used in your green marketing initiative.
